Year 11 Geography Trip
The Year 11 Geographers undertook the second fieldtrip for their GCSE by visiting Gloucester Quays and City Centre. This will help them answer fieldwork questions in Paper 3 of their GCSE.
The students were introduced to their fieldwork at school in the morning sessions, where the Geographers learned about urban land use models, urban processes and urban change over time. They then were briefed to the primary data they would need to go out into the field and collect, undertaking a retail and environmental quality survey in the Regenerated Inner City area (Gloucester Quays) and comparing it to the Central Business District (Gloucester City Centre). The students were also asked to create a field sketch highlighting the main features that they could see in both areas. Some of the factors on the survey that the students had to consider were retail purpose and quality, street appearance and how the areas were being managed. The students were extremely enthusiastic throughout the day and collected a robust set of data to be able to analyse and evaluate back in the classroom. Students ended up making their conclusions quite quickly which will only enhance their understanding of the human fieldwork piece in preparation for the summer exams.
